In this seminar, Marine Thieux will present her research bridging the domains of attention and sleepiness in children, drawing on behavioural and electrophysiological tools to investigate how sleep-wake disruptions affect cognitive functioning in clinical paediatric populations. She will begin by examining interictal epileptiform discharges in epilepsy as a model of transient network disruption and their role in momentary lapses of attention. She will then present findings from studies employing cognitive and electrophysiological measures to characterize how sleep-related dysregulation manifests during wakefulness, highlighting overlapping profiles between children with sleepiness and attention disorders. She will also explore potential moderators of vulnerability to sleepiness-related deficits. Finally, she will outline her future research, which aims to investigate how emotion and prior knowledge interact with learning and memory consolidation with a developmental perspective.
